BGR Seminar with Lifeline 28th - 31st August

Ok, so we took the challenge to speak to the Lifeliners, a group of young adults, who were interested to have a weekend on "Boy-Girl-Relationship"...

Experts in relationship, we are not, but our passion is to reach out to these young people and share with them principles which they will be able to apply in all areas of their lives.

The Puppeteer God

The weekend at Colonnades Hotel was intensive yet exciting as we witnessed what God was doing among us.

Demonstrating how to draw a Life Map for reflection

We were privileged to have witnessed their openness and desire to know God and themselves more.

The response: some bored, some asleep, some thinking deep, some entertained...

The weekend ended with an Honouring Men & Women evening, which was made very special at the SGCC for the 20 of us who were involved int he weekend. Certainly God has blessed us all in accepting his truth that we are his sons and daughters, heroes and princesses...

Attards in KK!

We took the opportunity to fly our friends, Pia, Stefan and Elisa to KK for 4 days, while they are on a mission trip to Singapore in August. It was great to see them all. Happy to see that they are well adjusted in Malta and are having a break from the busyness of the day to day building of the house, since they started the renovations this summer.

It was great to see Eli again since they left Allerheiligen last September. I had good fun with her, shopping...!! We went around getting small girlie stuff like bracelets and earrings and watches as well as nail polish... Really missed her! We have been living together for the past 5 years in both Malta and Germany.

Of course, our friends did not miss the speciality of the Chongs. We had crabs as a welcome dinner for them. Derek's mum fascinated our friends again plus ourselves...as we enjoyed the delicious meal prepared by her.

Not forgetting a taste of tropical fruits in all shapes, sizes and colours.... We really enjoyed the short time of their stay with us. Really miss our precious friends who have moved on in life. We're happy to see how God has led them in this very short time...

Discipleship Programme with the Lifeliners

Since Derek's full time employment with our parish, which started in May, he has been planning training programmes for the various youth groups in our parish. So far, both of us have been running a short discipleship programme for RAY Fellowship, a group of teenagers within the covenant community. We meet once a month for a day's input.

Since the beginning of July, the Lifeliners have been meeting at our place for an 8 week discipleship programme. Last night, we gave an input on healing the images of God and a follow-up session on discipleship. The session was a moving one, as we saw many responded to the invitation of Jesus during the short prayer ministry time.

We are grateful to God that we are able to journey with these young people and to see their openness in responding to the love of God.

Seminar in Labuan - 16th -18th July

About 100 young people attended the inner healing seminar run by Derek last weekend on the island of Labuan.

After hearing from Derek that we are giving teachings to some of the youth groups here in KK, our friend, Esmond from Labuan who is one of the youth leaders there, asked if Derek would fly over to Labuan to give a weekend seminar to the youth there.

Fabian went with Derek to assist with translation to BM but very soon after the start of the seminar, they realised that they had an audience who understood English perfectly.

Derek mentioned that it was great for him to see so many people who want to know about who they are, and responded to the seminar positively.

He had a personal connection with some of the participants who shared their personal situations with him.

The weekend ended somewhat rough as Derek & Fabian took the ferry home and were caught in a storm. They 3 hour journey became 6 hours... but they arrived safely on Sunday evening.

The Doulos Ship is coming again...

An honour to host 5 guests from 5 different continents! They are Nairi(Australia), Magda (South Africa), Olga (Germany) and Jeff (Paraguay). All four of them are preparing for the arrival of the Doulos ship here in KK on 29th August.

The Doulos ship was here last in 2007. With their motto - bringing knowledge, help and hope - they are expected to be selling more than 6,000 titles and has a stock of half a million books. More about the ship on www.doulos.org

Our friend, Sam, has just returned from her mission in China and was also sharing her work there. It was a pleasure to be blessing missionaries on their way and listen to their adventurous stories and experiences on the ship and elsewhere.

A Night to Remember: High School Musical

Truly a night to remember... After a marathon of practices and rehearsals in the past week, we finally saw the fruit of our labour as the students performed the adaptation of the High School Musical at the Magellan last night.

As part of the production team, I was one of those who witnessed the audition of the play. The excitement in the students that day has brought them this far... I was proud and happy to have been part of the team to have selected such talented singers and actors.

For most of the evening, I was behind the curtains, organising the "left stage". I have had many different experiences in the mission but never was I put in such a tense situation, having the responsibility to manage the left stage...

I had a walkie-talkie with me all night, which also made me realise the weight of my responsibility... There were some very tense moments when I had no clue what to say or do when asked for directions from the sound man. It was an experience, alright!!

Derek and my sister Christine were there too. We were able to enjoy the start of the evening together until the time came when I had to go behind the curtains... Still I had an enjoyable evening and a night to remember...

Happy Teacher's Day

Photo taken by my creative colleague, Shaz. They are the people I share life with nowadays... This was taken after a stressful week of teaching. Our routine Friday outing. On this picture, we were at Secret Recipe, indulging 7 types of cakes...

So, today we had teacher's day celebration at school. My first 6 months here in KK as a teacher has been quite exciting. I love to discover how to impart knowledge to teenagers. Today, we also finished the 1st level of GAC, an American course, which most of the International students are taking. A new excitement awaits as I venture into yet another challenge - I'll be teaching Business Studies next week as the level 2 starts...
